By: Brian Lindquist
Series: Titus
Today we wrap up our study of the letter Paul wrote to Titus. And as Paul wraps up this letter he addresses a subject that most churches and individuals are quite uncomfortable dealing with - confronting individuals who are causing division within the church. Most of us shy away from confrontation but in today’s sermon we explore why its essential that we directly confront divisive individuals, with love, because of what’s at stake is too high to ignore.

It shows how God takes each of us, wherever we are in our attitude toward God, and spares no effort to clear all hurdles to returning back to God and the life He calls us to live. We often have the misperception that the life of walking with God is all on us, however in this sermon and text, Paul shows us how it’s really about God’s initial work and sacrifice and our response.

- Oct 8, 2017Titus 2:1-10Oct 8, 2017Titus 2:1-10By: Brian LindquistSeries: TitusConsistency between what Christians believe and how they live is a glaring problem today. That’s why today’s text from Titus 2:1-10 is so helpful for us to hear and apply to our lives in the 21st century. Prior to this Paul had instructed Titus on how to deal with false teachers that had infiltrated the churches on the island of Crete. It’s very important, in any church, that our theology is correct, but equally important is that what we believe about God and Jesus Christ not merely stay in our heads but that it’s lived out in our lives. That was a challenge in the first century and remains a challenge today as well.
- Oct 4, 2017Titus 1:10-16Oct 4, 2017Titus 1:10-16By: Brian LindquistSeries: Titus"Many surveys among Christians today reveal how little they know about the Bible and how confused they are about basic Bible doctrines. And much of the blame for this comes from the false doctrine they are hearing from pulpits and Bible study leaders within the churches. It astounds me that there are many church leaders today who no longer believe in that Jesus came and died on a cross for our sins and rose again and will one day come back. There’s a prevalent belief that there is no physical Hell and that everyone will end up with God in heaven. Other leaders teach that the miracles in the Bible didn’t really take place but are mere “stories” to motivate us to live life differently. Paul doesn’t mince words on instructing Titus on how to handle these false teachers from within the church ranks and we’d do well to listen and apply his instructions today as well.

Today’s sermon is especially appropriate in light of today’s culture where we are often struggling with the level of leadership we see on all sorts of levels. Paul has given Titus the responsibility of setting up elders in all the churches on the island of Crete. In that culture, where immorality, greed and dishonesty was rampant it was very important to put the right people in charge of the churches. That need is just as important in today’s churches as well.
