Today’s sermon we will be looking at the most controversial text in James. Many see this text as the basis for the supposed disagreement between Paul and James regarding the role of ‘works’ in our faith and salvation. It’s what James says in this text that caused Martin Luther to lobby for James to be removed from the Bible. We will look at these supposed discrepancies and explain the richness of both Paul and James’ perspectives.

In today’s sermon we’re going to look at James addressing the topic of judgment or showing partiality to individuals. We tend to do it all the time and James comes down hard on this practice - calling it sin and equating it on the level of murder and adultery. Why is he so hard on what many would consider a “lesser” sin? Because showing partiality is a subtle form of judgment and that’s God place not yours and it devalues the intrinsic value that God has placed in each and every one of us. How do we change from this type of behavior. Read through to the action points at the end of the sermon.

This is in reference to going deeper into the Grand Canyon then merely standing on the rim (note this was inspired by a talk from Jon Albert, director of Canyon Ministries). This video provides a great launching pad into our text from James in which he begins to stress the importance of us not merely learning God’s Word but also putting it into action.

- Jun 11, 2017With Every Act of LoveJun 11, 2017With Every Act of LoveBy: Brian LindquistSeries: Open DoorsLast weeks sermon ended with a powerful video encouraging each of us to strategically reach out and disciple another person and then encourage them to do the same and so on and so on. If this process continued for 30 years over 1 billion people would be discipled for Jesus Christ. And the reality is it starts with one on one. Today’s sermon spring boards off of that and encourages us to take this call seriously. We also listen to a song by Jason Grey entitled “With Every Act of Love” and the words challenge us to walk through the doors God is opening up for us.
